Brothers Dane, Kobe and Eckahelo Simpson all start for the Northwest Christian boys basketball team in Colbert, Washington. We recently caught up with the Simpson brothers to ask them seven questions:
How would you describe your game?
Dane (senior guard): Knock down shooter who can get to the rim as well and create for others.
Kobe (sophomore guard): Fast, shooter who can pass and play solid defense. An all-around player
Eckahelo (sophomore forward): Slasher, I can get to the hoop when I want and finish well and I can post up pretty well. I have good footwork for my size and I can handle the ball well. I can shoot but I can definitely work on my confidence when it comes to shooting
What are your goals for the season, both individually and as a team?
Dane: Make the state tournament.
Kobe: Continue to improve.
Eckahelo: I want to make it to state for the seniors and honestly make it to state so I can show out.
Dane: Average at least 16 points and shoot 45 percent from the 3-point line.
Kobe: To be a good man for Christ.
Eckahelo: Prove that I can play at a high level even though I’m a sophomore.
How would you describe your coach?
Dane: He expects a lot from his players.
Kobe: He’s a good man for Christ and a solid coach who cares.
Eckahelo: He’s loud and loves to do drills cause he thinks that’s what will make us better. He has great intentions.
Who is your favorite player?
Dane: My favorite player was Kobe Bryant. Now it’s LeBron James.
Kobe: Russell Westbrook or De’Aaron Fox.
Eckahelo: I have three favorite players: “The Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul George, and Donovan Mitchell. All of them are very athletic and are strong and have a great offensive game that I look up to a lot. They also have a great passion for defense.
Who is your toughest matchup of the season and why?
Dane: Saint George’s because they are tough and our rivals.
Kobe: Saint George’s because they have multiple threats on offense and they go on runs that are hard to guard or stop.
Eckahelo: Saint George’s. We started out great, but then they just came out and beat us in the second half. I would also say Colfax but we can beat them with all of our guys.
What is your favorite gym in state to play in?
Dane: Our home court because the student section is awesome.
Kobe: Northpark Athletic Club.
Eckahelo: West Valley’s main gym.
What are your aspirations as a player?
Dane: I am going to play at Multnomah University next year in Portland so now my goal is to keep working hard to adjust to the next level.
Kobe: Play college basketball.
Eckahelo: I want to be the absolute best I can be with all the hard work and dedication I put into the game. I want to prove myself this summer during AAU and help lead the high school team next year.
