A closer look at the 4A boys basketball bracket and every regional matchup

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released the 2019 boys and girls basketball regionals schedule and state playoff brackets on Tuesday. Now it’s time to analyze the matchups and the path to the Tacoma Dome, starting with the 4A boys. Which team has the easiest path to the semifinals?

No. 1 Union (23-1) vs. No. 8 Battle Ground (18-8) at Mark Morris HS, 8 p.m. Friday

Matchup to watch: Union senior PG Ethan Smith vs. Battle Ground senior PG Vincent McCormic

Winner: Gets first-round bye at Tacoma Dome, advances to state quarterfinals on Feb. 28.

Loser: Plays the winner of the Mariner-Kentridge game on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome.

No. 2 Gonzaga Prep (21-2) vs. No. 7 Curtis (19-5) at University HS, 6 p.m. Saturday

Gonzaga Prep’s Anton Watson

Matchup to watch: Gonzaga Prep senior forward Anton Watson vs. Curtis senior wing Zack Paulsen

Winner: Gets first-round bye at Tacoma Dome, advances to state quarterfinals on Feb. 28.

Loser: Plays the winner of the Issaquah-Glacier Peak game on Feb. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tacoma Dome.

No. 3 Federal Way (23-2) vs. No. 6 Jackson (18-3) at Puyallup HS, 4 p.m. Saturday
